DEMONSTRATIONS.

Demonstrations take place on the fourth Wednesday of each month (occasionally on the fifth Wednesday) – from September to June at the Comeytrowe Community Hall in Galmington, Taunton from 7.30pm until 9.30pm (with a break for tea/coffee at 8.30pm), doors open at 7pm. Click here for directions. Free entrance for members, £5.00 for visitors.

Monthly Themes: we encourage our members to create an artwork for a particular theme and bring it along on the demonstration evening to show to our membership, visitors and artist of the evening.

Vanessa Snowdon-Carr – Wednesday 26th of November 2025
Subject: Process of mono printing with plant life and seaweed.
Vanessa uses mono prints as a starting point for her work so will show printing in various stages using plant life and seaweed.

James Tatum – Wednesday 28th of January 2026
Subject: Corners of the Quantocks in acrylics
Social evening to kick off the TAG anniversary year with a mini demo with James. Bring your your favourite artwork for a mini exhibition on the night. A free raffle ticket per person with the chance to win James’s artwork created on the night. Drink and nibbles provided.

Catherine Beale – 25th of February 2026
Subject: Wetlands Ham Wall nature reserve in watercolour
Watch a scene appear from cascading paint as Catherine demonstrates her spontaneous ‘ gravity painted’ watercolours using the local subject of Ham Wall Nature Reserve as her inspiration. She will explain her loose painting techniques which allow water to mix pigment on the canvas, creating atmospheric results.

Paul Weaver – 25th of March 2026
Subject: Discovering subjects through sketching and drawing
Paul will discuss the importance of regular sketching and drawing and how it plays a vital role in his creative process, covering pencil, pen and charcoal techniques. Sketching and drawing is a way of engaging with a subject and honing one’s visual awareness. It is a way of understanding form, depth, perspective, proportion, texture, light and shade in visual terms. It is a way of gathering reference and testing compositions for potential paintings.

Lisa Takahashi – 29th of April 2026
Subject: Dynamic woodcut prints
Lisa will be using stainless steel forged gouges and Japanese Shina plywood to create expressive woodcuts full of movement and drama. The beauty of woodcut lies in the bold, striking marks that come so naturally with this medium. To embrace the natural characteristics of Shina plywood, using your gouge as freely as you might a pencil in a loose sketch.

Subject: Windswept Dartmoor in pastels
Join us for a pastel demo to capture the life and energy of Dartmoor on windswept days. Full of tips for creating a sense of space, distance, and capturing mood and atmosphere.

Claire Western – 29th of July 2026
Subject: Rich, opulent and colourful – a fresh approach to still life
I will be showing members how to embrace a whole new approach to working from a group of objects. Starting with rich layered colour, i will be applying papers and multiple collage materials, then working bold shapes and colour over this. I will be drawing, painting and using masking and stencils, finally adding detail and further layers to create a big, bold image, full of life and interest.

Demo: Floral fields in oils with cold wax
Belinda will be using mark making and a vibrant spring colour palette to create paintings full of colour and texture at this mini demo.

Subject: Natural Environment of Somerset (including birds)
Jackie will demonstrate how to use botanical elements to create vibrant and interesting textures in her monoprints.

Subject: Creation of paints and pastel from earth pigments
Sara will demonstrate how she creates pastels and paints using natural earth elements
